EXPLORE THE COLLAB
Mister Cartoon, a legendary LA artist with strong ties to Japan, is renowned for his unique style blending Chicano culture, freehand pinstripes, lowrider customization, graffiti, murals, and tattoos inspired by prison art ("paños"). He brought Chicano identity to hip-hop and street culture, earning support from global musicians, athletes, and celebrities. The *New York Times* called him "a key figure in the Los Angeles hip-hop scene," while the BBC hailed him as "one of the greatest tattoo artists in America." XLARGE, established in Los Feliz, LA, in 1991, crossed paths with Mister Cartoon early in his career, cementing their roles in LA's street culture. Cartoon created graphic designs for XLARGE, which introduced his brand *Drive By* to a wider audience. In 1997, he launched the art gallery "George's" next to XLARGE's LA store, promoting X-Generation artists and hosting cultural gatherings. A pivotal 1998 exhibition, *Sick Side World Wide*, with photographer Estevan Oriol, further amplified his fame. In 1994, XLARGE TOKYO invited Cartoon to Japan alongside OG SLICK and Kelly "RISK," commissioning a mural in Tokyo's Ebisu neighborhood. This marked the beginning of his strong connection to Japan, which he credits as a turning point in his career. For nearly 30 years, XLARGE and Mister Cartoon have collaborated at the forefront of street culture. Their latest capsule collection celebrates his love for family, crew, and the blend of past and future. The collection features custom-designed apparel and a limited-edition BMX. The BMX, based on the vintage-inspired NOVA24 by Japanese maker KUWAHARA, reflects Cartoon's passion for lowrider aesthetics and BMX culture rooted in Santa Monica and Venice Beach. Known as a vintage BMX collector, his tattoo shop displays rare models, underscoring his dedication to this culture. This collection, a testament to the enduring partnership between XLARGE and Mister Cartoon, honors their shared legacy in street culture and creativity.
